Children with Special Needs
Public Programs
ECI
Children 0-3 who have special needs qualify for free in-home services for Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, and Speech Therapy coordinated by the Early Childhood Intervention Program. ECI also provides counseling and evaluation services.
School District
After age 3, the area district is required to provide education and services for children with disabilities. Your child will be placed in an Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD) or Early Childhood Program (EC) at the public school in your neighborhood. If your assigned neighborhood school does not offer a PPCD program then your child will automatically transfer to the nearest school with the program that best fits the needs of your child; bus services are provided for all children in PPCD Programs regardless of diagnosis or mobility. Your young child enrolled in PPCD may qualify for ESY (Extended School Year), or ‘Summer School’ programs.
